Questions employees actually ask

What happens to my Bitcoin if I leave the company?
It stays yours, full stop. Your Bitcoin goes directly to your personal wallet at the time of each purchase — it’s never held in a company account. When you leave, your balance is unaffected. No clawback, no vesting period, no forms to fill out. Your last contribution processes as normal on your final pay date and that’s it.
Can I lose more than I put in?
No. Your contributions are your own after-tax dollars — you can only contribute what you’ve already earned. Bitcoin is a volatile asset and its value can go down, but you can never lose more than the amount you’ve contributed. Your employer has no exposure to any losses either.
How do taxes work on my Bitcoin savings?
Contributions come from your after-tax pay — there’s no deduction at source. When you eventually sell your Bitcoin, any gain above your original cost basis is a capital gain under Canadian tax law. Block Rewards provides full transaction records so you (or your accountant) can calculate this accurately. We recommend speaking with a CPA for your specific situation.
Can I withdraw my Bitcoin any time?
Yes. There’s no lock-up period. You can withdraw to your own external wallet, transfer, or sell at any time through your Block Rewards dashboard. There are no penalties for withdrawing early.
Do I need to know anything about Bitcoin to participate?
Not at all. Block Rewards’ Learning Lounge walks you through the basics before you enroll — what Bitcoin is, how your wallet works, and what to expect. Most employees complete onboarding in under 10 minutes. You don’t need an exchange account or any prior crypto experience.
Can I see what my employer sees?
Your employer only sees aggregate plan data — total enrollment numbers and total contributions across the plan. They cannot see your individual balance, transaction history, or wallet address. Your financial activity is private.
What if my employer doesn’t offer this yet?
